A couple of years ago I stumbled across a beauty brand called Neals Yard Remedies. At first I was drawn in by the chic look of their products, and by how cute their little store in Cardiff’s Morgan Arcade looks (see here).
Then, I found out that they were the UK’s first, certified-organic natural health and beauty company and that drew me in further. I have an attitude to skincare that is very similar to my attitude to food, in that I always feel happier about using products made with natural ingredients, rather than filled with lots of chemicals and weird-sounding substances I can’t pronounce.
Over time, I have learned more and more about the way NYR operate as a business, and it’s all good news. They were the first ever health & beauty company to achieve 100/100 for ethics in an independent audit by The Ethical Company Organisation.
Committed to making beauty products with high quality organic, natural and plant-based ingredients, they source ingredients through ethical sourcing programmes, including the Fairtrade Foundation.
Neal’s Yard Remedies are passionate about the environment and actively support and promote organic farming. All ingredients are certified organic by leading bodies including the Soil Association. All products are made in Dorset, England.
Believing in safe cosmetics, the company uses no parabens, synthetic fragrances, GMO ingredients, silicons or minerals among many others. They are against animal testing and do not test any of their products on animals, instead employ an independent company that uses human volunteers to trial new products.
The company’s continued commitment to animal welfare has been recognised by campaigners from PETA, the RSPCA; Neal’s Yard Remedies was awarded a golden rabbit by the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection. They also support animal welfare charity FRAME, Traid, Friends of the Earth and The Samaritans.
Neal’s Yard Remedies launched their Bee Lovely range in support of its Save The Bees campaign., along with their petition to ban deadly neonic pesticides. Throughout the campaign, the company raised over £45,000 which was donated to bee keeping and bee friendly initiatives all over the UK, helping to make a real difference in local communities.
On top of all of that, the products smell amazing, last for ages, and look dead swish in my bathroom!
