HANK! EPISODE 10: WELSH HOSPITALITY IN CRISIS (PART 2) – WITH SHUMANA PALIT, ULTRACOMIDA

Shumana Palit & Paul Grimwood

Continuing on from our conversation with restauranteur Simon Wright in Hank! Cardiff Episode 9 – in this second instalment, we speak to Shumana Palit about how the Coronavirus crisis has affected her.

Shumana Palit and husband Paul Grimwood operate Ultracomida; a business which incorporates two Spanish deli-restaurants in Narberth and Aberystwyth; Curado Bar and Vermut in Cardiff city centre; and an online shop which delivers imported Spanish produce across the UK.

LIFE AFTER LOCKDOWN

When the Coronavirus lockdown came into effect, Ultracomida’s online shop became a major focus for the group as they looked to target wine drinkers and restaurant customers currently unable to visit, as well as keep restaurant staff actively employed.

But in recent weeks, as members of the public flock back to ‘non essential’ shops and the 5 mile rule has lifted, Ultracomida’s online orders have tailed off. Meanwhile, indoor hospitality around Wales remains closed until 3rd August.

In this episode, Shumana candidly chats through the reality of the situation for many independent restaurants in Wales. To listen to the full episode, click below:
