The same team behind the renowned Heathcock pub in Cardiff have announced plans for their latest venture, the Heathcock Bakery & Deli.
Having successfully managed The Hare & Hounds pub in Aberthin since 2015, expanded to Heathcock pub in Llandaff in 2018, and welcomed The Clifton in Bristol earlier this year, the team is now gearing up to open an artisan bakery, deli and cafe in the heart of Llandaff village.
When the world went into lockdown back in 2020, co-founders Tom and Sarah borrowed a friend’s van and set up the Hare & Hounds Bakery directly from their existing pub’s car park as a way to keep the business going when all else was shut down.
Serving fresh loaves and baked goods, the mobile bakery helped to keep staff in employment, and brought daily delight to residents in the Aberthin area throughout lockdown – and it continues to thrive to this day.
Now, the Heathcock Bakery & Deli, which will be nestled on Llandaff High Street, promises to deliver the same beloved baked breads, pastries, coffees, and loose leaf teas that customers in the Vale have been able to enjoy for years. Following the tradition of their existing venues, everything will be crafted from scratch, and there will be a dine-in offering of breakfast, brunch, and lunch.
In addition to the bakery & cafe, the Heathcock team will also introduce a selection of deli items, providing the residents of Llandaff with a diverse array of local produce – from charcuterie and cheeses to wines, ciders, and tinned goods, and a carefully curated selection of goods either made on-site or by local suppliers. As the team also manages a smallholding near Cowbridge, the hope is that they will be able to sell their homegrown vegetables, honey, and eggs at the bakery in Llandaff, too – reducing the need for locals to travel out of the area for farm-fresh artisan produce.
The Crowdfund Campaign
To bring this exciting project to life, the Heathcock team have launched a Kickstarter campaign with an ambitious target of £40,000.
But rather than requesting direct funds, the team has designed a variety of rewards which will allow backers to purchase various experiences, meals, and gifts. The reward tiers start from a cute branded tote bag, through to vouchers for bigger offers like daily coffee for a month or a year, and exclusive experiences and parties at their venues.
If you’ve left your xmas shopping to the last minute, many of the pledges would make a great last-minute gift – I’ve got my eye on the ‘breakfast for two’ voucher, and love the sound of the pasta making class led by one of the Heathcock chefs!
