HungryCityHippy – as this blog used to be called – started life as a way to document the things I loved most: good food, great places, and the idea that what we eat connects people, planet and plate. Over the years it became my little corner of the internet, filled with recipes, restaurant visits, travel blogs, and plenty of writing about sustainability, seasonality, food waste and the choices we make around them.
That legacy isn’t going anywhere. All of the original HungryCityHippy content will stay live on this site – it’s part of the story, and it’s still useful. But if you’re here today, you’ll probably notice something else creeping in…
What this is now
I’ve grown up. My interests have widened. And so has the blog.
HUNGRY. is still about food, but more through the lens of hospitality, experience, and trying to live a good life on a ‘normal’ budget. Cardiff-based, food-obsessed, and permanently curious about what makes something worth it.
- Eating out: restaurants, bars, hotels, the details that make a place sing – including lots that I work with & for
- Staying in: slowly decorating Pinky (my new house, she’s pink), and trying to make more sustainable choices as I create a cosy & functional home on my own
- Affordable, considered travel: the kind that feels special without being ridiculous, and of course, the food that anchors a trip
- Cardiff: this will remain rooted in Cardiff, and what is happening here. It’s where I live, work, and care about representing well <3
- Sustainability: it still matters deeply to me, it’s just not going to be the headline every time. It’s the filter in the background.
And honestly? This really is a personal journal, not a comprehensive guide. I’ll share what I’m excited by, what I’ve learned, what I’d recommend, but I make no promises to be the ULTIMATE guide to anything, soz!

Love your blog concept! I am with you on the decision to eat better and more consciously (and I am also with you on not being Gwyneth 😉 ). Happy to follow!
All of your key points in what you’re searching for are RIGHT ON!! Less meat is probably the easiest one… not to convince everyone else! 🙂 And I’m with everyone else on the Gwyneth! ha
Thanks both – I hope you enjoy reading! 🙂
This blog just keeps on getting better and better 🙂

Hi Sue I am so sorry I somehow missed this message! Can you email me on thehungrycityhippy@outlook.com?
Hey beautiful City Hippy,
my sister and I visited Cardiff for the first time this year in October, and we absolutely loved it. When preparing for the trip, I stumbled over this blog and was really happy to get a feeling for the Welsh capital by reading through your texts and recommendations. So useful, thanks for that :). I also love your general concept, very inspiring!
If you are interested, here’s how our 4 day trip went. We mainly stayed in Cardiff, but we took one day to visit the Brecon Beacons, which was marvelous:
