Cardiff’s Pettigrew Bakeries has been named among the UK’s best artisan bakeries in British Baker’s newly revealed Britain’s Best Artisan Bakeries 2026.
Over the last decade, the family-owned bakery has become a proper Cardiff institution, winning hearts via brilliant bread, obsessive lamination, and pastries that regularly go viral (their crème brûlée croissant has basically achieved cult status).

A new neighbourhood restaurant and wine shop will open later this year on Kings Road (formerly the site of Poca restaurant), on the border between Canton and Pontcanna.
Behind ‘Ogof’ – the Welsh word for cave – are co-owners and local residents Alex Vines, Zanna Clarke and Siôn Iorwerth; Alex has spent more than a decade cooking in acclaimed London kitchens including 40 Maltby Street and Rochelle Canteen, followed by running his much-loved ‘Vines’ pop-up in venues across Cardiff.

A brand-new Welsh cheese & wine bottle shop will be opening in Canton later this year, opposite Victoria Park.
The shop is the latest project from the team behind The Welsh Cheese Company, the Welsh cheese specialists run by international cheese judge Tom Pinder. For the past seven years The Welsh Cheese Company has made it their mission to spread the word about Welsh cheese, working closely with some of the most passionate producers in the country including Caws Cenarth, Caws Teifi, Pant Mawr Cheeses, The Snowdonia Cheese Company, Brooke’s Dairy and Cosyn Cymru.
